You can access the Thoreau Library Catalog and its online resources from home!
Click on the Catalog tab (at top left) to search for books that are available in the Thoreau library. To find lists of books on frequently used topics, click on the Copy Categories tab at top right. These include lists of books that relate to our Positive Behavior Program(PBS) including Bullying, Conflict Resolution, Friendship, Respect and Responsibility. Please see the following page for a small sampling of these books. You can check these books out from the public library or our school library. If you check them out from the school library, you may keep them for a week or less so that they are available for student and teacher use.
You can also use the catalog to search for websites that are checked to be sure they are safe and appropriate for elementary students. To find websites, click on WebPathExpress in the gray sidebar. You can then search by entering a word in the Find box or browse by clicking on featured websites.
Click on the Home tab (at top left), to access recommended websites and electronic databases. Among others, you will find World Book Online (encyclopedia), CultureGrams (countries and states), PebbleGo (Animals and Earth & Space for younger students), Tumble Book Library (audio/video books) and Discovery Education(streaming video). These are paid subscriptions, so you will need a login and password to use them. Ask for this information in the Thoreau library or see the library article in the March Oakleaf. Please note that these subscriptions are for the use of Thoreau students, families, and staff only. Please do not share the logins and passwords with anyone outside of the Thoreau community. Other links on the Library Catalog Homepage are free for anyone to use and do not require passwords.
I hope you find the Thoreau Library Catalog to be a useful tool for helping your child with their school work as well as pursuing their own interests. Please call, email, or stopby if you would like to check out books, have any questions or would like more detailsabout how to use our library resources.
