This committee organizes events enhancing academics at Thoreau. This committee also serves as a support and resource for teachers who are looking for materials to help kids who need a “higher challenge”.

This is a program open for all 4th and 5th graders to compete in a book competition at Thoreau during the school day and after school. Parents are needed to help select books, work with teams, and run the competition.

This program is run throughout the school year during lunch, or immediately after lunch. Students in 2nd or 3rd grade can sign up to be part of the book club for their grade. All students are welcome and scholarships are available. There is a fee for books.
Discovery Fair - May 4

This is a day and evening event where students showcase a special project they have researched and created. All children 3rd grade and up are encouraged to participate. Volunteers are needed to help children work on their projects in March and April, as well as needed to help during the day and evening of the event.
Math Olympiad

This math club meets weekly and participates in a national and international math competition. Last year we had impressive results with one of our students being ranked in the top 1% in the world!
