Positive Behavior Support Acknowledgements

Acknowledgements reinforce the school wide expectations.  The acknowledgement systems are developed by the PBS team with input from staff members.  The goal of acknowledgements is to provide students and staff with a framework to give and receive positive feedback. Acknowledgements should be reflective of the school culture, relevant to students, realistic, honest, age appropriate and informative. There are many different types of acknowledgement systems there can be school wide, classroom, or individual student.

At Thoreau School, the Tico Ticket is used universally as a visual and concrete statement that a student has been Safe, Respectful and Responsible.  These tickets may be collected individually, as a classroom or on a school-wide basis for recognition and celebrations.

Included are examples of how Tico Tickets are tallied at Thoreau.  One is a rating chart and the other is a blank game board to use to when the goal is larger and may take longer to reach.

All school assemblies are also a part of the Thoreau acknowledgement system.  These school wide gatherings are held several times a year to celebrate what is happening at Thoreau, showcase student accomplishments and give school wide messages of expectations.

At Home:

Celebrating good choices, positive behavior and all around success is one of the best parts of being a family.  Reward systems are a common place to start, but over time your child’s behavior will become self regulated and self rewarding.  The goal is for your child to know, understand and exhibit the behaviors that reflect your family’s values.

Be Safe, Respectful and Responsible!
